About John harris

John Harris joined the Texans’ organization as a Football Analyst in April 2014. Currently, he is the sideline reporter for all Texans contests on KILT/SportsRadio 610, joining The Voice of the Texans Marc Vandermeer and 1989 Heisman Trophy winner Andre Ware. He also writes articles for HoustonTexans.com, and contributes to Texans Radio and Texans TV on a regular basis.

A football lifer, Harris has spent his time on Earth around the game as a coach's son, player, coach, writer, radio host, television guest and all-around football historian. Harris provides a perspective not many can—a thorough understanding of Xs and Os with the ability to communicate that love and understanding to readers and listeners.

After graduating as valedictorian and three-sport star at Lamar Consolidated HS in Rosenberg, TX, Harris played four years at Brown University, earning the 1993 Eugene C. Swift Award for determination, hard work and courage. He earned two varsity letters in his time on the Brown campus. Furthermore, Harris added a Masters in Accounting from the University of Virginia in 2002.

In 1994, Harris started his coaching career at Episcopal High School in Jacksonville, Florida. In 1998, at the age of 26, Harris took over as head coach of the school's varsity squad and in three short years, he led them to the FHSAA playoffs for the first time in school history. He was voted District 6 Coach of the Year in 2000 after his team finished with the aforementioned playoff berth.

While coaching, Harris started his radio career in 1998 as a college football expert on SportsRadio 610 in Houston. He joined the early morning show for three years and eventually joined the #1 show in the city the "John and Lance Morning show" in 2002. Harris became a fixture on the morning show for the next five years, discussing college football and the NFL Draft. Harris also did guest hosting radio appearances in 20 different cities throughout the nation, including New Orleans, LA, Pittsburgh, PA, Palm Springs, CA and Raleigh, NC.

In 2007, Harris returned to Houston to start his full-time radio career, co-hosting the Sean and John show on 1560 The Game. He then transitioned to national radio in 2011, hosting the Overnight Takeover for the next three years on Sporting News/Yahoo Sports Radio. As a writer, his work has been featured on the front pages of YahooSports.com, FoxSports.com and collegefootballnews.com. He also spent the past multiple seasons as the draft expert for The Washington Post. He served as a member of the Executive Leadership Team for the Paul Bear Bryant College Coach of the Year Award for 11 seasons.

In addition to his role with the Texans, he is also the owner of footballtakeover.com, a site devoted to all things football and a published author. His book Time’s on Our Side: A Football Coaching Game Management Discussion- Vol. 1 is available on Amazon.

Harris lives in Houston with his wife, Paige, and their children, Jack and Maye. In his free time, he enjoys going to the beach with his family and watching college and NFL game tape…better yet, watching game tape at the beach.
